KWT
Railway
Murray's rail service comes from KWT Railway. The line runs
from about one mile north of Murray to Bruceton, TN. The railway
was built in 1892 and, at one time, was a major route between Nashville
and St. Louis.
Murray-Calloway Co. EDC Railroad
The Hardin Southern Railroad, an excursion line from 1 mile north
of Murray to Hardin, ceased operations in 2004. The
Murray-Calloway Co. Economic Development Corporation purchased the
8-mile track to ensure future development along the railroad.
Webasto,
Murray's newest manufacturer, needed the railroad to ship goods from
its plant on US 641 North. A spur was built from the mainline
to the plant, sponsored by the EDC.
Now trains daily
move down the line (provided by KWT Railway) from Webasto to
Bruceton, TN. The plant and the new spur virtually saved
Murray's railroad from extinction.
