safety and security of the community |
|
The Calloway County Jail is a 129-bed correctional facility constructed in 1996 that houses state and county inmates. In addition to the main jail we have a 34-bed Workhouse. The Jailer is Phil Hazle who was elected in 1998. There are 24-fulltime and 5 –part time employees including an LPN and an ARNP. Inmates have the opportunity to participate in programs that may help them upon their release from our facility. Some of these programs are GED Classes, AA and Substance Abuse Counseling. Inmates have access to an in-house law library and library cart privileges. Commissary is offered at least once a week so inmates may purchase hygiene and paper items or snack foods and drinks. Money must be on the inmate's account by noon on Tuesday for phone card and canteen purchases.
Property and money may be left for inmates during office hours. Permitted property includes clothing that is white or gray, made of cotton material with no hoods, velcro or slip on shoes, 1 soft back book, 10 photos and any prescription medication upon approval or eyeglasses. Money must be in the form of cash or money order. Inmates may receive mail at the Jail in care of the Jail address. We allow letters, cards and money orders to be sent in. Non-permitted items may be returned. Inmates are not allowed to receive calls at the facility nor do we take messages however, inmates may make collect calls.
